Exercise bands are convenient and affordable.
The Centers for Disease Control recommends that adults strength train their muscles at least two days per week. Exercise bands are a convenient and affordable tool for this endeavor, because they take up very little space and are easy to travel with. However, many resistance band exercises require that the band be secured to a stable anchor. A door jamb is the perfect solution for anchoring an exercise band.1.
Attach the door anchor to the exercise band. The door anchor usually has an attached ball or foam disk and a connector that the band is threaded through. Some exercise bands come with an anchor permanently attached, in which case this step can be skipped.2.
Place the door anchor into the door jamb of the open door at the height that is best for the exercise you intend to perform. Generally, arm exercises should be completed at chest height and leg exercises at knee or ankle height.3.
Close the door tightly on the exercise band, making sure the anchor is on the outside of the door and the remainder of the band and handles are on the inside of the door where you are standing.4.
Tug on the exercise band to check that the anchor is securely trapped in the door. Pull on the band from different angles to be sure it is tightly secured before exercising with the band.

- Consider putting a sign on the outside of the door to alert people not to open it while you are training. If the door is opened during training, the band could hit you.
- Use a locking door for extra security.
- Drink plenty of water before, during and after your exercise routine. Staying hydrated will keep you healthy.
- Always check equipment before beginning any exercise. Cracks or damage in the band could lead to breakage and injury.
- Store exercise bands away from the reach of children.
- Only use a door with a secure latching system. Never use a folding door or a door on a sliding track.
