Eating a low-fat diet can help you shed weight and get thinner thighs.
People accumulate weight in different places. Your thighs could be one of those trouble areas that store fat that's hard to get rid of. Bigger thighs can make it more difficult for you to get around and stand in the way of your desired shape. While losing weight specifically in the thighs isn't possible, there are ways you can modify your diet to trim fat throughout your body, which will also lead to thinner thighs.
It is a common misconception that you can lose weight in a specific area of your body if you do the right exercises or eat the right diet. This is wrong. While you may want to burn fat in the areas you hate the most -- like your thighs -- your body doesn't work that way. When you burn fat, it is burned proportionately from fat cells throughout your body. In order to lose weight in your thighs you have to lose weight everywhere. This will make every body part thinner, including your thighs.
One way to burn fat is through diet modification. Your body uses calories for fuel, and when it runs out of calories from food it starts to burn stored fat as energy. In order for your body to do this, you need to create a calorie deficit by reducing the number of calories you eat each day. You have to burn 3,500 calories to lose one pound; reducing your caloric intake by 500 calories a day will allow you to lose one pound a week, which is a safe weight-loss goal. Once your body starts shedding pounds, you'll notice your thighs starting to shrink.
Eating for Weight Loss
In order to lose weight you need to eat a nutritious diet. This should include plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains. You also need to eat a lot of protein; including protein in your diet, along with strength training, can help you build muscle. Your body burns more calories when it has to maintain muscle, so this will also help reduce your body fat. Lean meats like chicken and fish, as well as black beans and avocados, contain plenty of protein without adding too much fat. You should also make sure you eat breakfast ever day and include simple carbs, like bananas and wheat bread, to get your metabolism started. Keep your metabolism going throughout the day by eating frequently; starving yourself will only cause your body to store more fat.
Foods to Avoid
If you want to lose weight, and keep if from showing back up on your thighs, you should avoid certain foods. Eliminate high-fat, low-nutrient items from your diet including those that are fried, salty or sugary. Avoid foods containing saturated fats and trans fats, as these can raise your bad cholesterol and cause weight gain. Choose lean meats over fatty red meats, low-fat dairy over foods using whole milk, and water over sugary beverages like soda. Do this consistently to see the best weight-loss results.
