Kickboxing workouts help you to lose fat gained during pregnancy.
Kickboxing involves high intensity exercises that can help to decrease stomach fat after pregnancy. Unfortunately, there is no way to pinpoint one area of your body to lose fat. Kickboxing will help to lose total body fat which will minimize stomach fat over time. After giving birth it is important to allow your body to recover before starting an exercise regimen. In the past, physicians have recommended waiting six weeks before returning to exercise; however, MayoClinic.org reports, “If you had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery, it's generally safe to begin exercising as soon as you feel ready."
Kickboxing uses kicks in order to strengthen the lower body, build stronger abdominals, and deliver a challenging cardiovascular workout. Kicks include front kicks, roundhouse kicks, and side kicks. Your abdominal muscles have been stretched during pregnancy. While kicking, your abdominals contract helping to firm and flatten your stomach. Kicks provide an excellent cardiovascular workout, incinerating fat. To perform front kicks stand with feet shoulder-width apart, your non-dominate leg slightly in front of the other, and fists on either side of your face near your cheek bones. This will be your “fighting stance” and your home base for kicks and punches. Bring your bent left knee up toward your chest then kick your foot straight out in front. Come back into fighting stance, repeat for 10 kicks and switch.
Punches used during kickboxing include jab, cross, hook and uppercut. Use your core as the source of your power in order to continue strengthening your abdominal muscles. Start and finish each punch in your fighting stance. If you are right handed, to jab extend your left hand out in front of you rotating your knuckles so they are parallel with the floor. For cross, perform the same motion as jab with your right hand. Hook is performed by bringing your left forearm parallel to the floor and rotating the entire left side of your body, punching toward the right wall. Lastly, uppercut by using your right fist and punching up with your palm facing you. Reverse all punches for left-handed people.
Blast belly fat faster by incorporating weightlifting and circuit training into your workouts. Building lean muscle after pregnancy helps to firm muscles while increasing calories burned throughout the day. Weighted punches are the punches jab and cross performed with weight in each hand. Start with 5-lb. dumbbells in each hand. Do as many punches as possible in one minute. Rest for 30 seconds, then with 10-lb. dumbbells in each hand squat down so the weights are on the floor. Jump both feet back so your body is flat, jump your feet back in and stand up. Curl the weights, and then press the weights up from your shoulders. Repeat as many times possible for one minute. Add three or more exercises to the circuit and repeat three times with 30 seconds rest between each station.
According to "Fitness" magazine kickboxing workouts burn an average of 500 calories per session. The number of calories burned fluctuates based on the intensity of your workout. Kickboxing classes are designed to keep the intensity high for optimal results. If you are new to kickboxing, unmotivated or bored, joining a class can help to get you on the right track.
